| HAIR HISTORY - Permanent Waves |
| Permanent
waves were brought to us through the textile industry. The solution
was first used to straighten wool fibers so they could be more
easily spun. Someone came up with the idea of putting a cylinder
shaped roller on human hair, then applying the solution and reversing
the straightening process. A machine was used to heat the rollers. Hairstylists called them "pocket perms" because the hair would often break off and the beautician would secretly place the broken hair in her pocket, hoping the client would never notice. |
