ESSAY MAKEOVERS

Re-Inventing Brigitte Bardot
History often
repeats itself and so does fashion. Designers borrow a style from
a previous decade, give it a slightly different rendition and
make it new again. For the younger generation it is a new horizon
and the rest of us wonder why we ever discarded those clothes!

Hairstyles
for the last 5 years have been very flat and straight. The beauty
industry is now introducing volume and curl to the hair. The
Brigitte Bardot look can be seen in Guess Jeans ads, shampoo
commercials and movies. |

Brigitte
Bardot was born in Paris on September 28, 1934. She was first
recognized when she appeared in Elle Magazine in 1949. She married
Roger Vadim in 1952 and starred in his film And God Created
Woman in 1956. This brought her world-wide recognition.
Throughout the 1960s, she had an image of both an innocent young
girl and that of a sexy wild woman. She coined the name sex
kitten because of this persona. She retired from films
in 1974 and has since been involved with various animal rights
causes. She has done more for animal rights that any other person. |

Brigitte Bardot

Recently,
a long time client of mine named Karin, decided to change
her tinted red hair to blonde. After lightening her hair,
I realized that she resembled Brigitte Bardot. I asked her
if she would be interested in doing a photo shoot to recreate
that look. She said that she didnt know who Brigitte
Bardot was. Of course she didnt. She was born the year
Brigitte Bardot retired from film. I downloaded some pictures
of Brigitte from the internet and gave them to Karin. She
was a bit apprehensive about being able to look like that
but was excited about the possibility. We set a date and the
fun began. |

I tinted
her hair blonde, and cut it into layers. It was then set on
hot rollers. After combing it out, I added hairpieces and
a bit of backcombing to give her volume. My co-worker, Pamela
Joyce, applied makeup, consisting of pink lipstick, eyeliner
and false eyelashes. She also waxed her brows to give her
a Hollywood look.

A haircut and a blow dry take us closer to the "Bardot"
look.

Pink lips, eyeliner and false eyelashes add glamour.

An electric roller set gives us the volume that we need.

The
photos shown here are the end result of our time together.
Karin was a great model. When she is not posing as Brigitte
Bardot, she is a secretary in San Francisco.
Remember
that glamour is applied from the outside and beauty radiates
from within! |
